AHEC Scholars Program

The AHEC Scholars Program is designed for students in health-related professions who are committed to serving underserved communities. The program aims to enhance clinical education and prepare students for working in rural or underserved settings by offering interdisciplinary training and real-world experience.

AHEC Scholars participate in a combination of didactic and community-based, experiential learning, covering topics such as cultural competency, behavioral health integration, social determinants of health, interprofessional education, practice transformation, and current and emerging health issues.

Who is Eligible?

• Students must be enrolled in a healthcare degree or certificate program at NMC, including: 

        1) Nursing 

        2) Nursing Assistant

        3) Community Health Worker

• Be in good academic standing.

  • What are the Main Program Requirements?

    • Complete the required didactic & clinical hours each year for your program of study.

    • Take part in community-based trainings that focus on AHEC’s Core Topic Areas. 

    • Get involved in outreach by participating in an approved AHEC activity or event.

    Stipends

     Eligible students may receive a stipend after completing required program activities.
