About this Position
This position is a Career Navigator position that plays a critical role in supporting individuals with disabilities to obtain and retain meaningful employment. The Career Navigator provides guidance, resources, and advocacy to clients, helping them identify career opportunities, build necessary skills, and connect with employers. This position involves working closely with individuals with diverse abilities, employers, community organizations, and support networks to ensure successful integration into the workforce.
Minimum Qualifications
- Career Navigator I:
- High School Graduate or Equivalent.
- Career Navigator II:
- High School Diploma or equivalent plus Thirty (30) College Credits towards an associate’s degree from a U.S. Department of Education recognized & accredited institution and
- Two (2) years of experience in Social Work, Vocational Rehabilitation, Human Services, or Special Education, related field.
- Career Navigator III:
- Associate’s Degree from a U.S. Department of Education recognized & accredited institution and
- Four (4) years of experience in years of experience in Social Work, Vocational Rehabilitation, Human Services, Special Education, or related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Contributes and promotes a positive and professional working environment and relationship with the college community and promotes a positive representation of the UCEDD Department and NMC.
- Capable of handling multiple tasks while maintaining composure under stressful conditions.
- Completes and prioritize tasks accurately and in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Takes initiative and works both independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
- Experience with basic computer skills including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, and database, preferably Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint software applications.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clients, employers, and service providers.
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other relevant disability and employment legislation.
- Familiarity with job coaching, workplace accommodations, and vocational rehabilitation services.
- Organizational and problem-solving skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
Individualized Career Planning:
- Assess the unique skills, interests, and goals of clients with disabilities.
- Develop personalized career plans that align with the individual’s strengths, aspirations, and needs.
- Set short-term and long-term career goals and regularly review progress with the client.
Job Search Assistance:
- Support clients in the job search process, including identifying job opportunities, assisting with resume development, and preparing for interviews.
- Offer job matching services based on individual skills, qualifications, and employer needs.
- Collaborate with local employers to create job opportunities for clients.
Skill Building and Training: Marianas Ability Workforce Program (MAWP) Curriculum
- Assist clients in identifying and enrolling in training programs that develop their skills in areas like communication, teamwork, and technical abilities.
- Provide or arrange for job readiness workshops that cover resume writing, interview techniques, and workplace etiquette.
Employment Support:
- Provide ongoing support to clients during job placement, including on-the-job training and accommodations.
- Advocate for necessary workplace accommodations and ensure compliance with relevant disability laws and policies.
- Act as a liaison between clients and employers to resolve any workplace challenges or concerns.
Partnerships and Advocacy: MAWP Curriculum
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, vocational rehabilitation services, and employers to increase opportunities for clients.
- Advocate for greater inclusion and accessibility in the workforce for people with disabilities.
- Educate employers on the benefits of hiring people with disabilities and assist in creating a more inclusive work environment.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed and confidential records of client progress, job placements, and employment outcomes.
- Prepare reports for internal use and for funding or regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance with program requirements.
Community Engagement:
- Attend and participate in community events, job fairs, and networking opportunities to increase awareness of the services available to people with disabilities.
- Actively engage in outreach efforts to identify potential clients and employers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Additional Information
Essential Functions of the Position
Must be able to frequently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. The individual in this position will frequently communicate with students and their colleague(s) in order to exchange information in various situations. Occasionally lifts office products and supplies, weighing up to 25 Ibs.The employee may be tasked to work outdoors in the sun and heat, on or around wet surfaces, and other areas exposed to the elements.
