In celebration of Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Week, Northern Marianas College’s (NMC) Project PROA is excited to announce the 2nd annual Pacific Islander Cultural Night, taking place on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the NMC Building V Parking Lot. This event is free and open to the public.

Students of Northern Marianas College have made their voices heard by recently electing new officers to the college’s student government body, the Associated Students of NMC (ASNMC). The new officers are Bonnie Gio Sagana, President; Maria Daniella Sablan, Vice President; Xinyi “Rain” Ni, Secretary; Richard R. Baleares, Treasurer; and Senators Andrielle Coloma, Remedio “Bedu” Dela Cruz, and Jude D. Litulumar.

As part of Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Week, Northern Marianas College (NMC) President Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero will be a featured speaker during an online forum entitled, “AANAPISIs: Empowering Generations of AA & NHPI Students,” hosted by the Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education (APAHE).

After receiving her degree from Northern Marianas College, Danielle Coloma joined the long list of NMC alumni contributing to the CNMI’s local workforce. Coloma is now a valued member of the Triple J family, serving as an Accountant for Triple J Five Star Saipan. In this role, she manages various responsibilities, including financial reporting, record keeping, and budgeting & forecasting, alongside other essential tasks such as document filing and processing payments. 

Northern Marianas College Cooperative Research, Extension, and Education Services (NMC-CREES) welcomes their new Agriculture Production Program Leader, Dr. Adrian Ares. Dr. Ares is a career scientist with a rich and diverse background. Born in Argentina, Dr. Ares earned his degrees in Forestry Engineering, Soil Science, and Agronomy. His extensive career has spanned across various institutions and countries, including five land-grant universities, the US Department of Agriculture – Agricultural Research Service, and the Weyerhaeuser Company.

This year marked 10 years of 4-H Camp Maga’lahi, an outdoor summer camp that empowers CNMI youth with skills and memories that will last a lifetime. Across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, this year’s Camp Maga’lahi trained and engaged 109 youth counselors ages 13 to 19. These skilled counselors successfully engaged over 300 campers, ages 5 to 12, by facilitating experiential learning activities and collaborating with partnering organizations. They created a fun-filled and secure environment that fostered a strong sense of belonging and inclusivity for all participants.
